Anime tracker for iPhone and Android: a practical setup guide

By Miru · · 3 min read

A useful anime tracker answers three questions: what am I watching, where did I stop, and what should I watch next? You do not need a perfect catalog of everything you have ever seen before it can help. Start with the series you are watching now, then build the rest of your library gradually.

1. Choose a home for your watchlist

If you already use AniList or MyAnimeList, keep that account as the starting point. A new phone app should fit the library you already maintain. Before moving a large list, check which account the app connects to and whether the connection is for ongoing synchronization or a one-time import.

Miru is available on iPhone and Android and supports AniList and MyAnimeList accounts, as described in its store listings. Use the download links below to get the correct app: several unrelated apps also use the name Miru. After connecting your account, check a familiar entry before editing your whole library.

2. Add your current shows first

Begin with two or three series you are actively watching. For each one, confirm the exact season and record the last episode you finished. “Episode 7 completed” is less ambiguous than a note that says “watch episode 7,” especially when you return after a break.

Keep seasons, films, and specials separate when they have separate catalog entries. Similar titles and sequel subtitles are an easy way to put progress on the wrong entry. Open the synopsis or cover before saving if you are unsure.

  • Check the series title and season.
  • Set the current watching status.
  • Record the last completed episode.
  • Confirm the saved progress before leaving.

3. Make updating a small habit

Update progress after finishing an episode or a viewing session. Pick one moment that is easy to remember rather than relying on a larger weekly catch-up. If you watch with someone else, agree whether the shared list records your individual progress or the episodes you have watched together.

Treat ratings and notes as optional at first. A list with accurate progress is already useful. You can add a short reaction, a favorite scene, or a reminder about a character when those details help you return to the show.

4. Check your account before switching devices

When using more than one device, make a small change to one entry and check the linked account before updating many more. If the change is missing, confirm the account identity and connection, then retry when you have a reliable connection. Avoid making conflicting edits on both devices while investigating.

Your next step is simple: install Miru, connect the account you want to keep using, and check one current series. A tracker earns its place when it makes the next viewing session easier.

Put your next episode in order.
